Chapter 4: Birth of a sun

“Almost there sister!”

The Night elf said, supporting her sister with every meaning she could. Ly cried out, feeling the pain rippling through her body. Even when the healers tried to lower the pain, you could not take it away. Giving birth simply was not meant to be painless. You had to feel it when you brought a new life on the world.

“I see some white hair!” One of the healers said with a smile.

“White?” Ly replied, only to receive a nod before she had to brace herself for the pain again. A few minutes later, she fell relieved, her ears receiving the crying sounds of her newborn baby.

“Such strange eyes …”, one of the healers said when they embraced the newborn in some clothes.

Strange eyes? I couldn’t be ...

Ly’Kalyns heart made a jump when she saw her sister walk up to the healers, taking over the child in her arms. She had expected to see a horrid expression, but to her own surprise, the elven woman took the child in her arms without saying anything.

“Look, sister, she is blessed with the eyes of the sun. She is fortuned to become a good hunter.”

Ly looked down to the small wiggling baby in her sister's arms. The eyes of the child, a girl, were bright golden. It was a rare color among the Night Elves, certainly when both parents were a standard silver. Yet strange things could happen and golden eyes were often linked to the sun, destined to become hunters who can withstand the bright light. But it was not only this detail that made Ly suddenly worried. While the healers had not said anything, to busy with taking care of everything remaining, she noticed the darker hue of the child skin color. Her own skin being an ashen grey and the purplish grey shade of her mate. Yet that of her child was darker, still having that purple shine to it, but way darker than both her parents. And the child’s hair was a snow white color. Nobody would even ask a question about that, for Ly her own hair was a silvery white. Her mate however, was blue … All these details were invisible for the healers … and the Tribe, who would celebrate the birth of their first ‘princess’. Ly knew deep down, that this child’s father was not the man that was leading at her side...

The healers quickly cleaned up, allowing the new mother to rest with her child.

“We will inform Fa’hadir as soon as possible. He has been nervously walking around the Tribe all day.” One of the healers said before they went outside.

May’Kalyn, Ly’kalyn’s sister chuckled softly.

“He will be proud on his firstborn child.” May said when she turned her eyes to her sister, noticing the slight worried look on her face.

“Is something wrong?” She asked, taking a seat down next to her sister. Ly’s heart made a jump when her eyes crossed those of May. How could she live with this? Her mind could only be at ease when she had confessed the sin she had committed. And the only person she could trust it to was sitting right next to her.

“May, can I tell you something? Something important, but you must promise me that you will never tell this to anyone.”

May looked confused, taking the hand of her sister.

“What is it, my sister. You look way to serious for this?”

Ly sighed deeply, feeling tears well up in her eyes, but she was able to hold them back when she looked down to her daughter in her arms.

“I need to tell you who the real father of this child is …”

That night, May’Kalyn left the Tribe in haste, back to her own home. She had not stayed for the celebrations, but had requested to return to her own Tribe as soon as possible. No one ever knew why the Imha’Akthan sister was in such a rush to go back home ...
